Coronavirus or more accurately COVID-19 is affecting all of us, either directly or indirectly. Although there is no vaccine available at this time, there are steps that will reduce the likelihood that you will get the virus. Your actions can also have an impact on the health or your co-worker, your family and your community.
Just like you need to understand typical jobsite hazards for your industry, you need to understand how COVID-19 spreads:
when you’re close to an infected person (within six feet), and
when tiny droplets from an infected person’s cough or sneeze get into your mouth, nose, or eyes. Keep in mind that these droplets are tiny, and often invisible, and you can’t feel them.
These droplets can be transmitted to hard and soft surfaces in a building environment from an infected person coughing, sneezing, and touching surfaces. The length of time the virus stays on these surfaces is uncertain at this time.
How can you protect yourself?
Practice social distancing. Stay six feet away to avoid getting the virus. There are people who are carriers who have no visible signs of having the virus.
Clean your hands often. The best way is to wash them with soap and water for 20 seconds. In lieu of washing, use a hand sanitizer that contains at a minimum 60% alcohol. Rub it on your hands until dry.
Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands. Be mindful about keeping your hands away from your face.
What responsibilities does a business have to protect its employees?
Give them a clean and disinfected environment. The proper processes require the use of an Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) approved disinfectant to kill the Covid-19 virus, and most importantly proper application. EPA has recent changes to the application process.
Contract Services Group (CSG) is current in these requirements.
CSG has the materials, equipment, core knowledge and trained technicians available to provide this service. See our recent post for additional information on the CSG Coronavirus (COVID-19) Response Plan
