Random Acts of Kindness

17-February 2021

Throughout our day to day lives, we do many things without intention. We wake up, do our morning routines, go to work, pass by people throughout the day as we complete whatever task we have set for ourselves. But what if we started our day with intention? What if we started our day off with an act of kindness? Doing something as little as letting someone merge in front of you in traffic, giving a compliment to a co-worker, employee, or stranger, or even just smiling at someone you pass by.

Today is National Random Acts of Kindness day, where people are encouraged to go out in their community and perform random acts of kindness for their peers. It’s a day that you get to go out of your way to appreciate those around you, make someone’s day a little brighter, and see others in need and take action. We at CSG, challenge you to do just that. We challenge you to take some time out of your day to perform a random act of kindness whether it’s to a friend, family member, co-worker, employee, or a stranger.

Here are a few easy ways you can spread kindness in your community:

  • Give a stranger a compliment

  • Let someone go in front of you in line

  • Write a positive comment on your favorite blog, website, or a social media account

  • Leave letters of encouragement on someone's car

  • Send a gratitude email to a coworker who deserves more recognition

  • Pay it Backward: buy coffee for the person behind you in line

  • Hold the door open for someone

  • Smile at someone you pass by

  • Do someone a favor without asking for anything in return

  • Send a positive text message to someone

  • Donate to a charity

  • Practice self-kindness and spend 30 minutes doing something you love today

  • Hold an elevator for someone running behind

Sometimes life can get ahead of us. It’s easy to forget that the smallest acts of appreciation or acknowledgment can turn a person's whole day around. While acts of kindness are intended to benefit the people receiving them, several studies have shown that the people performing the acts also feel happiness and fulfillment as a result. In these times of increased uncertainly and isolation, it’s so important to be kind to others, whether it’s a friend or a stranger. The world needs more people who are willing to step out of their comfort zone and have to courage to be kind.
