National Safety Month at CSG

Updated: May 19, 2023

The National Safety Council (NSC) has designated the month of June as National Safety Month. This month is an opportunity to improve your workplace, home, and community by identifying and resolving any potential safety hazards. One of the NSC's goals is to ensure a safer work environment because every team member deserves to make it home safe every day.

The health and safety of our team members is a top priority of Contract Services Group, Inc. A safe and healthy workplace protects team members from injury and illness while increasing productivity and team morale. CSG has created a robust safety program that has effectively promoted a safe work environment and prevented accidents.

What is National Safety Month?

National Safety Month was established by the National Safety Council (NSC) in 1996 to raise awareness about safety concerns for industrial workers in the United States. The NSC's emphasis on safety stems from the history of unsafe working conditions for workers during the Industrial Revolution. The NSC has worked to further workers' rights by advocating for more safety regulations in the workplace.

The National Safety Council provides countless resources to improve the safety measures of businesses. All resources are free and easily accessible, making it easy for all companies to participate. This annual observance seeks to create a safer workplace free from preventable injuries and accidents.

When is National Safety Month?

NSC takes the month of June to highlight common workplace hazards and offer safety tips that businesses can quickly implement. June is the start of the summer months, bringing high temperatures that can accentuate workplace injuries such as dehydration and workplace. Because of this, the NSC seeks to address these concerns before the summer months.

Each week of National Safety Month focuses on a different issue. This year's topics are Musculoskeletal Disorders, Workplace Impairment, Injury Prevention, Slips, Trips, and Falls. The NSC encourages companies to focus on various issues to create widespread awareness about safety topics.

How CSG Creates a Safe WorkPlace

As the heat of summer approaches, team member safety becomes even more pertinent for CSG. The policy of CSG is that injury and illness prevention shall be considered of primary importance in all phases of operations and administration. CSG is committed to developing, implementing, and ensuring that every employee is entitled to a safe and healthy work environment. Therefore, CSG will make every reasonable effort in the interest of accident prevention, fire protection, health preservation, heat injury prevention, and hotel housekeeping musculoskeletal injury prevention.

CSG has curated unique safety programs available to all team members. These programs encompass training regarding proper lifting methods, work tool instructions, proper chemical handling methods, and more. Safety excellence is a crucial pillar of CSG; therefore, team members are required to complete weekly training. This ensures our safety programs are up to date and always fresh in our team member's minds.

CSG has also implemented a monthly safety reward program to keep team members engaged in safety excellence. Each month CSG's area managers nominate a team member whose actions have displayed an exceptional commitment to safety. Examples of this are:

  • Reporting unsafe working conditions or work practices before they turn into an accident.

  • Consistently following company safety rules.

  • Always wearing your PPE.

Our reward program has proven to be successful at ensuring safety excellence.

Benefits of Safety Excellence

Although June is National Safety Month, workplace safety is a year-round commitment. A safe workplace mitigates injury and illness, promoting a more productive work environment. Team members that are equipped with safety measures can complete tasks quicker. Additionally, a safe and healthy environment reduces team member turnover and raises morale amongst team members.

Workplace safety has also proven to be beneficial to employers. Employers can save $4.00 to $6.00 for every dollar spent on a safety and health program. According to OSHA, workplaces with successful safety and health management systems reduce injury and illness costs by 20-40%. Ultimately, the cost of injury prevention is far less than the cost of injury. Safety programs truly benefit both employees and employers.
